How do you get on the GSA Schedule?

If you’re looking to expand your business prospects, the GSA Schedules Program could offer some serious opportunities. Becoming a GSA contractor gives you a share of a $45 billion government contract pool, lucrative and long-term business, and the chance to establish yourself in the government marketplace.

Read on for tips on how to become a GSA contractor and steps to get a government contract.

What does it mean to be on the GSA Schedule?

Getting on the GSA Schedule allows your company to sell a product or service to federal buyers for at least 5 years. The benefits you could enjoy include:

  •         Simplified business, as all red tape is dealt with when you apply
  •         The chance to extend your Schedule for up to 20 years
  •         Access to online government marketplaces for sales and marketing
  •         A great advantage over non-GSA Approved competitors

Who can use the GSA Schedule?

If you are a commercial business, non-profit organisation or educational institution,  you may be eligible for a GSA contract, if you:

  •         Have been in business for at least 2 years
  •         Can demonstrate reliable financial performance
  •         Sell products or services in one of GSA’s Large Categories

How do you get approved for GSA?

There are three steps to become GSA certified:

  1.       Evaluate whether your company meets GSA’s contractor requirements
  2.       Prepare your proposal, catalogue, financial information and marketing materials
  3.       Negotiate your T&Cs with GSA

After getting a GSA number you’ll need to update your catalogue, monitor your competitors, and ensure compliance with GSA’s stringent regulations.

How much does it cost to get on the GSA Schedule?

Such a rewarding opportunity is not cheap and requires a lot of paperwork and know-how. However, if you’re certain that a GSA contract is right for your company and you’re committed to the application and post-award process, then the pay-off is certainly worth it.

Whether you use in-house resources or outsource to experts, you must invest a minimum of $5,000, about  six months to obtain a GSA Schedule, and often considerably more if you have no or little experience in the government marketplace.

Many businesses choose to work with GSA consultants, like Price Reporter, who can help you through the entire application process, from developing a proposal to post-award maintenance. Call us to know more about how to become a GSA vendor and the next steps on your journey.
